Marketers turning up the volume on Twitter smack - question relevancy
This interesting article primarily focuses on the relevancy of Twitter and tries to draw a comparison to Second Life. I amplified this part because it struck me that the chatter questioning Twitter’s sustainability taking place for some time is starting to surface directly from marketers. At the same time, they are becoming even more vocal about leveraging Facebook…and who could blame them. FB’s recent MS deal to retain control over advertising in addition to UI enhancements, opening up more user information, as well as richer Fan Page opps speaks volumes about their desire to monetize, and brand marketers seem ready to oblige. Facebook is going to do a lot of business this year and perhaps deepen the divide with Twitter even further from a marketers perspective. Is it even possible for Twitter to compete with Facebook? Can they remain relevant?
f you’re a marketer who has steered clear of Twitter, your (non)strategy may be paying off! It’s possible that this Twitter thing may just take care of itself.
“I’m not a big fan of Twitter,” says Joel Ewanick, group vp of marketing for Hyundai. “My Twitter meter has gone down.” Ewanick says he finds Facebook, which has copied most of Twitter’s best features, to be a superior platform. “[Twitter has] become the butt of a joke. You start seeing in popular culture people making fun of Twitter.” Geoff Cottrill, CMO for Converse, seconded that.
“Twitter is a little bit overrated,” he says. “There will be a new media toy that will replace it in a year or two.”Read more at www.brandweek.com

1 month agoIt’s always good to channel shares through some source of medium that somewhat (more being better if you’re in the social networking field) links/connects back to you … thus - personally, I’m 110% sold on Amplify for this reason plus a “google” more … (I didn’t much like being a “twit” anyway …
